When I was a child, our holidays were always big—and loud.
Our house somehow became the hub, the place where the people we called family would gather. A home full of adults I called uncle tío or auntie tía, and their children—my cousins. There was food, music, and an abundance of love.
And as much as I loved them and the holidays, I would often wish for something quieter. Something slower. A more relaxed holiday with just my parents.
Now that I am an adult, my holidays are very much that—quiet.
And you know what I find myself yearning for?
The beautiful madness of my childhood holidays.
What I’ve come to realize is just how precious those moments were.
How precious all of life’s moments are—both the small and the big ones.
It’s so easy to get lost in the overwhelm of the season. The hustle. The frustrations that can arise with loved ones. And for some, the loneliness this time of year can bring. Everyone is feeling something.
So if you’re feeling overwhelmed or frustrated, pause for a moment and remember what this season is truly about.
And if you’re celebrating alone, and the quiet feels deafening tonight—take a moment to reflect on the small moments this past year that brought you joy.
Let us remember to hold gratitude in our hearts for what we do have.
Let us love on those who may need a little extra this season.
And let us soak in every moment—because these, often quietly, become our greatest gifts.
